Less likely conditions in second conditional
In second conditional, the past subjunctive form of be to is used to express that a condition is less likely.
If you were to be a mythical creature, which one would you be?
If he were to ask you to marry him, what would you say?
The first sentence expresses an unlikely present situation, while the second one refers to an uncertain future.
